Eric Bana is both a film and television actor.  While he hasn’t done a lot of comedy recently, that’s how he started his career.  He was a cast member and writer on the Australian sketch comedy series, Full Frontal, from 1993 to 1996. In 1996-97, he had his own short-lived comedy series, The Eric Bana Show, where he played a variety of different characters and also wrote some of the sketches.

While he already had a very successful career underway, Eric’s break-out drama role in Australia was the biopic, Chopper, (released in 2000) based upon criminal Mark “Chopper” Read’s autobiography. Eric’s performance in this movie is what brought him to the notice of Ridley Scott, who immediately cast him as Delta Force soldier, Sfc. Norm “Hoot” Gibson, in Black Hawk Down, where he gave a quiet, but charismatic performance in the midst of a star-studded cast.

Bana returned to Australia to work on the 2002 comedy, The Nugget, and during filming was offered the role of Bruce Banner in Ang Lee’s film, The Hulk. The Hulk was followed by a supporting role in Wolfgang Peterson’s film, Troy, with Eric playing Hector, and then he was once again cast in the lead role for Steven Spielberg’s Munich, where Eric played undercover Mossad agent, Avner Kaufman.

Eric Bana’s most recent movies include romantic comedy, Lucky You (2007), and the Australian film, Romulus, My Father (2007). Next up will be The Other Boleyn Girl, with Eric playing Henry VIII and then he’ll be working for Ridley Scott in Factor X and J. J. Abrams in Star Trek.
