It really did not take Alex O’Loughlin too long to bounce back, did it? He’s on TV again this fall in the medical series, Three Rivers. Truthfully, I’m not a huge fan of the genre. The only medical tv show that I watch is House and that’s mostly because I enjoy Hugh Laurie’s snark. But even that show I frequently think about abandoning. However, I do believe that I will at least check out Three Rivers for a few episodes. I really love Alex… as you probably know. I just wish it were a cop show or something LOL I know, we have enough of those, but enough is never too much as far as I’m concerned.
According to the latest news from the gossip blogs, Moonlight has been officially cancelled by CBS and it looks like it isn’t headed anywhere else either. Deadline Hollywood Daily has the best reporting on the scoop and you can also read Alex O’Loughlin’s message about the cancellation on his MySpace blog.
So that’s a couple of my favorite shows gone this season as both New Amsterdam and Journeyman are cancelled as well. Journeyman I’m not sure I will miss so much. It was good, but I feel like they left a lot on the table. It just wasn’t as compelling as I’d hoped. New Amsterdam, on the other hand, had really won me over and I just loved all of the flashback scenes so much. I hate to see that show go!
While I don’t think this is a great news, I’m honestly not too worried about how things will wind up going for Alex O’Loughlin. He seems to be pretty popular with the CBS execs and so I think he will land on his feet. He’s a talented actor and he’s already done pretty well for himself on US shores, so I think that will continue. I would be willing to bet that CBS will have a new show for him as soon as next season.
Alex O’Loughlin is in TV Guide magazine again. There’s a short interview/profile of him and this stunning photograph. SpoilerTV has the full-size image, along with a scan of the article itself, so you’ll want to run over there and save it onto your hard drive right quick!
Okay, when I first heard about Alex going to the charity drive thingy, I actually toyed with the idea of pricelining some airline tickets and just heading out to LA for the weekend. Then I decided I should be responsible. Well, stupid, stupid me! Never again. Next time I am going if he does something
Anyway… there are lots of great pics to be had. This one I’m posting is courtesy Alex-O.net and they have a small gallery of photos to share, and also you should head over to the Alex O’Loughlin Charity Toy Drive thread at Moonlightline.com for Leeser’s report AND photos. Mmmm, that man is just ridiculously attractive.
Alex O’Loughlin is going to be at Pole Position Raceway in Corona, CA this morning at 9:30 a.m. to participate in the toy drive. A bunch of CBS celebs will be racing Go Karts. With any luck, we’ll have some pics tomorrow night from either the wire services or from fans who are lucky enough to live in the area. Yes, I hate them all!
A few days ago I posted an excerpt from an interview with Alex O’Loughlin at If Magazine. That interview was conducted by conference with a couple of other online media outlets and so there’s some follow-up stuff. Mostly the same material, but the If interview was a bit abbreviated. They didn’t include this question, and it’s probably one of my favorite answers from Alex:
What actors or actresses do you draw your inspiration from, or who are your favorites?
Alex O’Loughlin: There are so many wonderful actors. Sean Penn got up at the Academy Awards when he won his award and said “everyone knows there is no best in acting” and there is no best, there are lots of performances that have inspired me over the years. Sean Penn is certainly one of them. Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Daniel Day Lewis is a phenomenon. He’s like an enigma, I’ve watched his performances and I can’t for the life of me work out how he transforms as he does.
Marlon Brando. I love Marlon Brando, for all of his arrogance. I love actors that don’t make half decisions. Mel Gibson, I probably shouldn’t say that. I know he sort of fell off the wagon recently and said some stupid stuff. But growing up as a kid in Australia and seeing him do the movies he did, the “Mad Maxes” and stuff, and then move over to America and cross the bridge to producing and directing as well, and come up with films like “Braveheart.”
It’s hard for any young man who’s in the industry not to, I would imagine, not to find that inspiration. But then there’s other actors that the world doesn’t know about that I’ve grown up with, that I’ve seen on stage, that have breathed life into performances that have changed my life. They’re some of my best friends, so that’s as influential to me as those big stars that we all see in movies.
Moonlight-Detective has some scans of the TV Guide issue featuring Alex O’Loughlin in the make-up chair getting his vamp face done. Vampface Alex in the gallery.
Seriously, the Moonlight vamp make-up is the sexiest damn vampire special effects I’ve ever seen. Guh!
While I’m here, let’s just post up some other Alex goodies, yeah? I found these all through my good buds at Moonlightline.com
Click through to the full-size images. Make sure you are seated.
And then there’s this awesome video on Youtube which will make you swoon and thud.
Okay, I’ve only mentioned Alex’s tatts once on this blog and that is probably the biggest search query I get on this page, so I’ve put together some photo proof of all of Alex O’Loughlin’s tattoos. Enjoy!
PS: the bluebird isn’t real, but the big shoulder tattoo is.
Two more commercials that Alex O’Loughlin did early in his acting career have been posted to Youtube. Yes, early in his acting career, she says. Even though his acting career is only four years old or so as it is *g*
The first one is an Australian Mitsubishi commercial and Alex is just freaking adorable.
The second one is a Toyota commercial. A sexy Toyotal commercial. I’m not kidding!
If you have a Youtube account, I highly recommend subscribing to Bella’s feed. She’s got the hook up!
Maybe I should have called the journal “Aussie Hunk”
iF: What about Mick made you want to play this character?
O’LOUGHLIN: I really like his humor and that was the first thing that came off the page. First of all as an actor, you read scripts everyday and you read people’s interpretations of characters everyday, and some are more filled out than others and some are one-dimensional. Some characters speak to you more than others do. This character; I got him, I understood his motivations and his passions and why he is conflicted and why he thought was funny was funny. I just got him right away. I guess it all boils down to empathy. I had empathy for him and thought I could understand him so I thought I could justifiably play him.
One of the things I really like about Alex is that he’s really opinionated without being aggressively so. And he definitely has a healthy respect for his own capabilities. Most of the actors I really like have strong egos (Russell Crowe being a case in point), but Alex’s ego is nicely tempered by his friendly and gregarious personality.
He also strikes me as very bright and inquisitive, another favored trait *g*
